More than 120 soldiers from the California National Guard’s 132nd Multi-Role Bridge Company are on their way home from Afghanistan. The unit is based in Redding and Mount Shasta.

The soldiers are coming home in waves after a year-long deployment to Afghanistan. Many family members and friends have been waiting at the Redding and Chico airports for their loved ones to get home.

A couple of local kids could not wait to see the soldier that they know as “Sergeant Mommy” on Monday.

The Ross boys decorated their car and made signs for the big arrival. As soon as they saw their mom they held their signs high and were ready to give their mom a big hug.

“The one thing I want to do now that she’s home is just come and have fun,” said Dillon Ross. “I want to play with her and when I come home just sit next to her talk and have fun. My mom is my number one hero.”
