Major Movie Company Purchase Puts North State Native At The Helm
North State native and Academy Award nominated film producer, Kathleen Kennedy just received a huge promotion. President of Lucasfilms.
The company behind the Star Wars movies and Indiana Jones, to name a few, was just sold to The Walt Disney Company for a reported $4 billion dollars. Kennedy's promotion was negotiated in the deal.
Kennedy is already a co-chair of the company founded by movie mogul, George Lucas.
During a press conference Tuesday Lucas mentioned Kennedy, who grew up in the North State and is a Shasta High School alum.
Lucas said, "I handed the company over to Kathleen Kennedy who has been a friend for 40 years and is super qualified. And now it's time for the next step and that is for Kathleen and [to] take the company over to Disney."
Disney has already announced plans to produce a seventh Star Wars movie. Kennedy will also be brand manager of the Star Wars franchise.
Kennedy recently produced the Stephen Speilberg film, "Lincoln."
There will be a special screening of the film at the Cascade Theater in Redding on November 11th. Kennedy will take part in a Q&A session following the screening.
