CORNING, Calif. -

A Corning man was arrested early Friday after officers say he tried to run them over with a van.

It happened just after 3:30 a.m. Friday.  Officers responded to a report of a suspicious U-Haul van at McCoy's Hardware store at 2060 South Avenue.   They found a man and woman in the vehicle.  Officers order them out of the van.  The woman complied, but the man stayed in the vehicle.

Officers discovered Jason Michael Stewart, 36 of Corning, had a warrant for his arrest and ordered him out of the van.  Police said Stewart moved into the driver's seat and started the vehicle.  He shifted into reverse and backed toward the officers.

Eventually officers broke the van window and tased Stewart.

He was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, resisting an officer and $261,000 in outstanding warrants.
