Man Ditches Bicycle And Runs From Police By Foot

A Chico man wanted for assault with a deadly weapon has been arrested after leading police on a foot pursuit near Bidwell Park on Tuesday.

Police say 18 year-old Deshawn Dean of Chico was spotted by officers on the Esplanade near a playground. As soon as Dean realized he was being followed, he ditched his bike and ran towards Bidwell Park. Officers set up a perimeter around East 4^th Street. Dean was caught in the middle of East 4^th Street and taken into custody just before 4 p.m.

Officers say Dean was also in possession of a controlled substance.
