REDDING, Calif. -

A woman and two Marines accused of attacking a pregnant woman on the Sacramento River Trail were back in court.

Redding Police say the baby's father, Lance Swann, his cousin Erica Swann and fellow Marine, Jeffrey Walton kicked, punched and choked 18 year old Nicole Vultaggio on the Sacramento River Trail in June. Vulttagio was eight months pregnant at the time with Lance Swann's baby.

Investigators say Swann plotted the attack against the baby because he didn't want to take responsibility for him.

All three suspects were supposed to enter their pleas in a Shasta County courtroom Wednesday morning, but their attorneys asked the judge to push it back.

Lance Swann's attorney, Adam Ryan, told us there are still a lot of reports that they need to go through before any of the suspects feel confident enough to give a formal plea. The judge granted their request and pushed the case back.

Outside of the courtroom, we caught up with Erica Swann's mom, Janine Swann, who also raised Lance. She told us she visited Erica Swann in jail over the weekend. She said Erica did not look herself and seemed tired and uncomfortable.

Janine Swann told us it's still so surreal to see her kids in custody. "I'm so glad they found who did this to Nicole. It's just shocking it's my family and again, as I have chills to see my daughter in there and to see my nephew in there is still unbelievable to me and I haven't gotten their side of the story yet. After the Public Defender gets all their evidence together then I'll understand a little more. Right now, I don't understand any of this," she tells us.

Janine Swann said she didn't know anything about her 20 year old nephew's relationship with Nicole or about the baby until the incident, but she hopes that one day they will be able to have a positive relationship with baby Edan. She said this entire situation feels like a nightmare and that right now, all she can do is pray for a miracle.

All three suspects are being charged with attempted murder, conspiracy and robbery. They are scheduled to be back in court August 10th.
