Murder-For-Hire Defendent Enters Plea
The Anderson woman accused of trying to hire a friend with a criminal past to kill a family member was in Shasta County court on Tuesday.
Angela O'Regan, 55, pleaded not guilty to solicitation of murder charges against her.
O'Regan is accused of plotting to kill her granddaughter's father because he would not allow her to visit her granddaughter.
He has primary custody of his daughter.
Officers said they've recovered the gun that was allegedly going to be used in the plot as well as text messages and phone recordings that discuss the alleged murder plan.
Police also say O'Regan gave incriminating statements when interviewed by investigators.
Shasta County Deputy District Attorney Toby Powell said the DA's office might seek conspiracy to commit murder charges, which carry a harsher penalty. However he said it's too early in the investigation to make the call.
A man claiming to be a member of O'Regan's family contacted KRCR News Channel Seven and said she is a good person and that her behavior is out of character.
O'Regan will be back in court May 1.
