Neighbor Dispute Leads to Fatal Shooting in Shingletown
A dispute between neighbors left a man dead in Shingletown Tuesday night.
Authorities received a 911 call around 8 p.m., reporting an assault at 33289 Plateau Pines in Shingletown.
Deputies and CHP officers found a man dead in the snow when they arrived. The man was identified later by the Shasta County Coroner to be Lee Roy Thibault.
Deputies said Lynn Hamilton, 56, admitted to shooting the Thibault after being threatened and assaulted.
Hamilton told deputies Thibault had threatened to kill him earlier in the evening, and while running a chainsaw had threatened to cut off Hamilton's head.
The verbal threats escalated. Hamilton said Thibault walked to his driveway with a baseball bat and again threatened to kill him, allegedly attacking him until his hands were bleeding.
Hamilton said was afraid the man was going to kill him so he pulled a handgun from his pocket and shot him.
Hamilton was not arrested but was questioned and released.
The deceased man's name is not being released until family can be notified.
The investigation is ongoing and when completed will be reviewed by the Shasta District Attorney's Office.
