New Details in Sacramento River Drowning of Brett Olson

The autopsy results of a college student who drowned in the Sacramento River have been released.

Olson's body was found in the Sacramento River west of Chico on September 9, six days after he disappeared during the Labor Day Float.

The autopsy report released this afternoon lists “drowning” as the cause of death.

Olson was also found to have acute alcohol intoxication and there was evidence that he had recently used cocaine. The drowning has been ruled accidental.
