New Domestic Violence Campaign Funded by Verizon
With domestic violence rates two times higher than the statewide average, Shasta County has had to work hard to combat the issue locally.
Now, a $22,000 grant from Verizon Wireless to the Shasta Family Justice Center will help make it a little easier. The money will go to the “Call to Men” campaign.
This new program will work to get men involved in the fight against domestic violence and sexual assault.
Michael Burke, the executive director of the Shasta Family Justice Center, said that Verizon has given them grants over the last few years to help strengthen the community’s fight against domestic violence.
“The purpose of the grant is to encourage men to change the norm—to have a different outlook when they think of domestic violence and sexual assault...that it’s not their fault; it’s nobody’s fault,” said Burke. “It’s a community issue and this program is there to engage men to take a stand and make sure domestic violence stops in our community.”
Burke said the campaign will kick-off within the next few months.
