RED BLUFF, Calif. -

The area near the Jelly's Ferry exit near Interstate 5 is being dedicated to a police officer who was gunned down in 2002.

Officer David Mobilio was killed in the line of duty while gassing up his patrol car on Main Street.

He left behind his wife Linda Mobilio, and one child.

His death eventually inspired his widow to write a book to help children better understand police officers. It's called "Feeling Safe With Officer Frank."

Mobilio's admitted and convicted killer Andrew Mickel says he did it to protest police brutality.

Mickel is still in San Quentin state prison on death row.
