REDDING, Calif. -

Wrestling is out of the Olympics.

The International Olympic Committee pulled wrestling from Olympic competition on Tuesday.  The sport will still be included in the 2016 Olympics but would not be in the 2020 summer games.

Wrestling was dropped because its popularity in the 2012 London Olympics was not as high as the IOC would like it to be.

Northstate wrestlers were surprised by the move calling wrestling as one of the oldest Olympic sports.

The move is not permanent yet.  The IOC still has to vote again in September to permanently remove wrestling from the games.

It is also not clear what sport would replace wrestling.
