Firefighters were called to an early morning fire at the vacant Regal Inn in Chico early Thursday. A Chico Police officer spotted the fire around 12:30 a.m.
The building has been vacant for more than a year. It took an hour to extinguish. Firefighters said it was human-caused. Transients are known to use the vacant building.
The flames damaged one room and a large portion of the attic.
Chico Fire Captain Dave Main said they extinguished a fire at the same building two months ago.
Eight engines and a ladder truck responded.
