The Paradise Police Department is teaming up with six other agencies to make sure the roads are safe this holiday season.
The police are warning everyone that they will be cracking down on drunk driving for the holidays.
They’re taking part in the Avoid the 8 Butte County DUI campaign to reinforce the importance of staying sober behind the wheel during the holiday season.
In May, two brothers from Washington were driving around Paradise when the driver, who was under the influence, lost control of the car on the Skyway just north of Clark Road. The driver’s brother died after the car hit a series of trees.
Paradise Police want to make sure a situation like this doesn’t happen this holiday season.
An officer said, "I think everyone knows not to drink and drive, but for some reason they think they can get from point A to point B without being noticed. We have a lot of traffic accidents that way. People get hit and injured."
Last year Butte County had over 1,400 DUI arrests.
Paradise police will have DUI checkpoints all across Butte County starting this Friday until New Year’s day.
