Player of the Week: Chico High's Burak Karatekeli
Burak Karatekeli of the Chico High School Panthers had a great night on the stat sheet on both sides of the ball.
In a victory over Red Bluff on Friday, October 5, the Chico High wideout caught five balls for 116 yards. Defensively he also intercepted two passes. But the statistic the senior is most proud of a different number, his grade point average.
Last year he had a 4.33 GPA, better than an A average of 4.0.
Karatekeli puts in the extra work in class, and has plans to attend an elite school. He hopes to win a full scholarship.
"I want to go to Stanford," said Karatekeli. "I want to get my degree in business or maybe economics. I want to travel. I've been to Turkey and Europe. That really interests me, experiencing other cultures. I'd like to go to a few other parts of the world and experience different things."
He's earned the respect of Head Coach Jason Alvistur. "Burak is a very smart kid, in the classroom, on the field and in life," said Alvistur. "I've got a lot of respect for the effort he puts into being smart and trying in that sense."
Karatekeli is a triple threat, great in the classroom, on the gridiron and on the basketball court. He doesn't hesitate when asked which is his best sport.
"I'd say basketball. I've played basketball and football my whole life. Lately I've excelled in basketball a little bit more," said Karatekeli.
Karatekeli returns to the field this week as Chico High School hosts Paradise.
