Police Use Stolen Device to Track Down Alleged Burglar
Police used a stolen device’s tracking system to find a burglar yesterday.
According to the Chico Police Dept., several residential burglaries were reported in the 100-block of West 2nd Ave. in Chico between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on Mar. 12.
Similar items were stolen and the point of entry for each burglary was generally the same. This led the police to believe that the same suspect committed all of the burglaries.
Of the stolen items, one was an electronic device of some kind. We called the Chico Police Dept. today but we were unable to get any information on what type of electronic device it was.
On Mar. 14, the device was used to track the burglar. Ray Bland, 32, from Oroville was found with the device at Oak Way Park in Chico. Police took him into custody.
Police obtained a search warrant for Bland’s home in Oroville where they found additional stolen property related to the burglaries reported on Mar. 12.
Police also discovered a stolen, loaded firearm. Several small children lived in the residence and the weapon was easily accessible to them.
Bland was booked at the Butte County Jail and has been charged with with the following crimes: two counts of burglary, an ex-felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, as well as child endangerment.
