CHICO, Calif. -

Chico Police are crediting an alert bank teller for helping catch a pair of suspected robbers.

Emily Clark, 36 of Willows, and Gary Belcher, 57 of Chico, were arrested Thursday around 4 p.m. in the parking lot of Walgreens at East and Cohasset.

Police had followed them there after a bank teller at the U.S. Bank on the Esplanade reported seeing the pair walk into the bank in disguise. She feared they might be preparing to rob the bank.

Police said Clark was wearing a black wig, and Belcher was wearing a red baseball cap and sunglasses. The clerk remembered another bank employee had warned staff about a bank robbery in Colusa involving a male wearing a ball cap and sunglasses. The clerk notified the manager. When the manager said hello to them, Clark and Belcher left.

A police officer pulled over their car in the Walgreens parking lot at East and Cohasset. When officers asked Belcher to get out of his car Thursday afternoon a loaded weapon fell to the ground.

Belcher was arrested for Monday's robbery at the Bank of America in Corning. Clark was arrested for robbing the Dollar Tree store on Notre Dame Boulevard in Chico on September 3. Both of them were booked into the Butte County Jail.

Local FBI representatives are now involved in the case and will be determining if these subjects are responsible for any additional cases.

Chico Police would like to recognize the US Bank staff for their alertness. Police said they are confident that additional robberies were averted by their efforts.
