A Red Bluff man died early Monday morning while in police custody.
The Red Bluff Police Department said they were dispatched to a home on the 500 block of Linn Avenue around 12:30am. Police were told that a 42-year-old man was inside the home with a knife.
When police entered the home, the man resisted arrest and struggled with officers. After officers were able to handcuff the man, they noticed signs of serious medical distress. Police said medical personnel began giving CPR but failed.
Police said that although the case is still under investigation, there is no indication that any weapons were used by officers during the incident.
The California Department of Justice Bureau of Forensic Services, the Tehama County District Attorney's Office, and Red Bluff Police Investigators are collectively investigating the case.
An autopsy of the man has been scheduled, the cause of death is pending autopsy and toxicology results.
