REDDING, Calif. -

Police are trying to figure out what caused a loud explosion in the area of Shasta View Drive and Castlewood Drive in Redding late Friday.

Investigators say they received multiple 911 calls just before 8:00 p.m., and that the explosion was heard as far away as the area of Hartnell Avenue and Churn Creek Road by both citizens and police officers working in the area.

As police arrived on scene, someone reported finding a metal fragment in the driveway of a residence in the 4000 block of Tiffany Lane. Investigators believe that fragment came from the explosion, and is possibly the base of a cylindrical carbon dioxide canister.

Police say they do not have any victims or suspects, and they do not know if the explosion was intentional or accidental.

No damage was caused, but they are still asking anyone with information to give them a call.
