Redding Tattoo Artist Featured on Spike Reality Series
A Foothill High School graduate and the owner of a local tattoo shop is competing on season two of Spike TV's hit television show, "Ink Master".
Jamie Davies has owned Tattooz Ink in Redding since 2003 and has been a tattoo artist for 17 years.
He was auditioning for various other reality TV shows when he got a phone call from a friend, telling him about the tattoo show. He went to Los Angeles and auditioned.
Davies said the audition process was lengthy, took a few months full of interviews, but eventually he landed a spot on "Ink Master".
Davies spent two months over the summer filming in New York City.
All 16 contestants lived under the same roof, shared rooms and only two bathrooms.
Davies said it was like a “tattoo boot camp” and that there was definitely competition. He also said it was unique because “he learned how to work with them and against them.”
He said the secrecy of filming a show like that was hard. He cant tell anybody specifics but he did say that it was hard being away from his family.
Davies describes himself as a “dedicated tattoo artist", adding that he genuinely cares about the tattoo. He said he “cares just as much about the tattoo as the customer.”
Tattooz Ink is at 2685 Bechelli Lane in Redding .
Davies is getting ready to hop around the country over the next few weeks for viewing parties. There will be one held here in Redding at Shameless O'Leery's on California St. on Oct. 16 at 10 p.m.
"Ink Master" premiers on Spike on Tues., Oct. 9 at 10 p.m. The season finale in December will be live.
The winner of the series will get a $100,000 grand prize, an editorial feature in the preeminent tattoo magazine, Inked and the title of 'Ink Master'.
