REDDING, Calif. -

The city celebrated a major milestone Thursday. It turned 125 years old.

A celebration was held inside City Hall from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. where city leaders invited the public to a small gathering with cake and refreshments. There was a large sign that folks could write birthday wishes on.

Mayor Dick Dickerson told KRCR News Channel 7 that this was a celebration for the community, but they are also celebrating a recent "A" rating from Standard and Poors, which means the city is in good financial health. Dickerson said, "Though we certainly have problems, we need to really be vigilant of how we spend our limited resources going forward, as we have been in the past, but we're in stable condition."

The city of Redding was incorporated on October 4, 1887.

Another community event will honor the city on October 28th. The Shasta Symphony Orchestra will put on a concert at the Shasta College Theater at 3:00 p.m.
