REDDING, Calif. -

A Shasta County Deputy has filed a claim against the county after his dog was run over by two of his colleagues.

The claim was filed almost a month ago by Deputy Troy McCoy. He is asking to be reimbursed for more than $4,100 in vet bills.

The claim states that Deputy Garet Baldwin and Deputy Dustin Reynolds went to McCoys home in Paynes Creek to check on him during the Ponderosa Fire.

It said the Deputy who was driving turned the car around. That's when the right rear tire rolled over McCoy's dog, Coco.

According to the claim, Coco's pelvis was broken in four places requiring major reconstructive surgery and physical therapy.

Deputy McCoy said he doesn't have any hard feelings toward his colleagues, whom he considers his "brothers."

He said he is simply filing a claim, just like any other citizen has the right to do.

Sheriff Tom Bosenko said this is an "unfortunate incident" that will be handled the same way all other claims are.

He said right now, the Shasta County Board of Supervisors are in the process of deciding whether or not to accept the claim.
