Brett Olson Has Been Missing Since Sept. 2
CHICO, Calif. -

Social media is a major tool in the search for a missing 20-year old college student.  Brett Olson was last seen Sunday on the Sacramento River bank in Glenn County.

His friends are using Facebook to enlist tens of thousands of supporters to help.  They range from fellow college students to celebrities.

Crews from the Butte County Search and Rescue team scoured the air and ground near the Sacramento River once again today.  They’re using a picture that was taken before Brett went tubing.

Brett’s friends are not giving up.  They turned to social media to enlist the support of Facebook and Twitter users living as far away as Indiana.

“We know we are not alone and that is huge comfort for us,” says Michael Olson, Brett’s father.

Michael Olson has been in Chico all week trying to find his son.   He says the support from everyone is making this tough time a lot easier.

“We got a number of friends that came up there unsolicited.  We are actually trying to find things for them to do and it just been overwhelming,” says Michael Olson.

People in South Bend, Indiana did a candle light service Wednesday night for Brett.  Brett’s mother, Elizabeth Olson, says she doesn’t know anyone in Indiana and was blown away when she saw the picture.

“Oh my God,” shouted Elizabeth Olson.  “That is really really amazing and it gives us hope that so many people are talking about it that he still can be found.”

Even celebrities are helping out.  Gold Medal Olympian beach volleyball player, Kerri Walsh tweeted about Brett’s disappearance this morning.  Sophia Bush, an A-List actress, got in on the action.  Miley Cyrus, and Selena Gomez pictures of Brett Olson on Instagram for their thousands of followers to see and spread the word.

The social media has led investigators are talking with someone who said on Facebook that she saw Brett Olson that day.
