Some folks living on Old Oasis Road in Redding say they are fed up with the smell coming from a roadside ditch.

Neighbors complain that it has smelled for months and it gets worst when there’s heavy rain.  They describe the odor as very unpleasant and fear the water in the ditch is unsanitary.  The source of the water is a pipe that appears to be coming from one of the neighbor’s homes.

A division manager with the Shasta County Environmental Health Division says it is legal to have the water drain into the ditch.  They say they are taking the issue seriously and have already sent a health specialist out to inspect the area.  Adding that it does not appear to be sewage or from a septic tank.  They will continue to monitor the situation, and plan to address the complaints.
