Chico Police and the Butte County Sheriff's Office were busy Sunday night when they were called out to three separate stabbings within three hours of each other.
Chico police officers received a call around 9:00 p.m. of a reported stabbing on the 1000 block of Nord Avenue. When officers arrived at the home, they found a man and a woman both suffering from stab wounds. Police said Joverly Rayford, 29, and another man were arguing when Rayford grabbed a pair of scissors during the fight and stabbed the other man. During the fight, Rayford's wife tried to intervene but was stabbed by him.
Rayford was booked into Butte County Jail and charged with assault with a deadly weapon and domestic violence.
Minutes after police were called to Nord Avenue, they received another call of a reported stabbing at The Handle Bar in Chico. The Butte County Sheriff's Office was asked to help assist the Chico Police Department because many of their officers were responding to the previous incident on Nord Avenue.
When deputies arrived, witnesses said two men were stabbed by a juvenile, but fled the area with two other juvenile suspects. Deputies later found two of the juveniles involved and arrested one of them. One of the victims was taken to Enloe Hospital for treatment.
A few hours later at 11:35 p.m. deputies responded to a third stabbing near the area of Guntren Road in north Chico. Deputies said a woman in her mid-twenties was running along Guntren Road near Garner Lane and was attacked and stabbed from behind. The woman was stabbed on her side, deputies said the wound looked like she had been stabbed with a knife. They were unable to find the suspect.
Deputies are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or saw any suspicious people in the area to contact the Butte County Sheriff's Office.
