REDDING, Calif. -

U-Prep is the winner of this year's Redding Regional Science Bowl.

Students from all over the Northstate competed Saturday at Simpson University.

The students were grouped into teams of four, plus one alternate player.

They were asked a series of questions on chemistry, math, earth science, and more.

They were each given a buzzer. The first one to hit the buzzer and answer correctly got the points.

This year, there were ten schools and twenty-one teams across the Northstate participating. Those schools are: Shasta High School, Foothill High School, Central Valley High School, Enterprise High School, Trinity High School, Chico High School, Anderson Union High School, Stellar High School, U-Prep School and Lassen Union High.

Mat Madison, the Chair of the event, told us this event "really showcases the most amazing intellect and mental ability of the brightest minds at our local high school level. These kids can answer questions I can't even ask, frankly."

As this year's winners, U-Prep will head to Washington D.C. on an all expenses paid trip to compete in the Office of Science's National Science Bowl in April.

The students on the winning team are Nathan Hernandez, Colleen Murphy, Bond Isheim, Tyler Baczynski and Kathryn McCallum.
