COTTONWOOD, Calif. -

After nearly two days of searching, Monday morning searchers recovered the bodies of a father and five-year-old son who apparently drowned while fishing in Cottonwood.

Witnesses said the boy, who was later identified as James Arthur VanSickle, fell from a boat on Murphy's Pond Saturday afternoon.  His father, James Patrick VanSickle, 27, then jumped into the water to save the child.  Both of them disappeared in the water.

Neither victim had been wearing a personal floatation device.

Searchers looked for both victims Saturday and Sunday.  Monday morning, searchers recovered the two bodies.

According to Asst. Sheriff Phil Johnson, the two victims were on a boat with a young girl who did not fall into the water.
