A fire gutted a former Chico business early Monday morning.
The call came in just after 4:30 a.m.. A newspaper delivery person reported 20 foot flames coming from the former home of Victor Industries at 365 East 20th Street in Chico. The business has been closed for some time.
Six engines responded. The roof was burned off building and fire damaged a 1,000 square foot area.
The witness told firefighters she saw a homeless man walking near Fair Street about the same time she spotted the fire.
Investigators say someone started the fire, and believe it was caused by some sort of incendiary device.
Chico Fire Department executed an aggressive attack using 4 engines and one truck, 8 volunteers, and 2 Cal Fire engines.
No one was hurt. Firefighters said their was evidence homeless people had been living in the warehouse area of the building.
Victor Industries was formerly housed in the building and produced toothpaste tubes.
East 20th Street was closed at Mulberry as firefighters responded.
East 20th Street was reopened around 7 a.m..
