The Department of Homeland Security tipped off Butte County authorities about possible bomb-making materials at a home in Paradise.
When the FBI, Butte County Bomb Squad, and ATF searched the property, they arrested Helen Murphy, 55, and Clifton Murphy, 50.
On Thursday, agents served a search warrant at the Murphys' home on Melody Lane in Paradise. They said they found several explosive-making materials such as ammonium nitrate, as well as several guns, including illegal assault weapons.
Helen and Clifton Murphy were both contacted in their vehicle outside the home. A Glock .45 caliber handgun was later located in the vehicle.
Helen Murphy was charged with possession of a concealed firearm, possession of assault weapons and possession of materials with intent to make explosives. She was booked into the Butte County Jail on $190,000 bail.
Clifton Murphy was charged with possession of assault weapons and possession of materials with intent to make explosives. He was booked into the Butte County Jail on $165,000 bail.
"I don't have any animosity towards them but I just pray they'll turn themselves in and own up of what they did," said a neighbor who did not want to be identified.
