A Paradise family loses business in fire
A family business in Paradise is recovering after a fire ripped through their counter top shop and destroyed everything in its path.
The Princes have owned Paradise Counter Tops for the past 25 years.
On Monday they spent the day sorting through what was left of their belongings.
Cal Fire officials say the fire started in a motor home that was parked next door at the Skyway Carousel Motel. The fire spread across the vegetation and damaged two buildings.
A truck was also destroyed.
The flames shut down the Skyway in both directions for nearly two hours Sunday night.
"There were fire trucks everywhere, water lines, flames shooting out the back," said Ben Prince, the owner's son. "They didn't have keys, so they pride one of the doors open. So, I ran down there and got a key so they get the doors open because the fire was up top and had to cut their way in."
A Paradise police officer, a firefighter, and someone else in the area were treated for minor injuries. Cal Fire says the fire burned one eighth of an acre and destroyed at minimum $300,000 worth of equipment.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The Princes said they should be back in business in a couple of days.
