A man in Redding has been donating his free time to help local widows of veterans with yard work.
Raymond Myers said the idea came to him when he was going through some rough times and had a lot of people help him. After that, he decided to post an advertisement on Craigslist to offer his free service - helping the widows of veterans by doing yardwork for them.
Mary Amacker said Myers has been an answer to her prayers.
"I feel like he’s an angel, you know?" said Amacker. "He’s my angel doing this because I can't do it."
Amacker lost her husband about two and a half years ago due to health complications. He was a 23-year Army veteran and she says ever since then, she has had a hard time keeping up her yard.
"I have some physical limitations, 'specially my neck and my back so using my arms is pretty hard," said Amacker.
Amacker said her sister saw a post on Craigslist about a man who was offering his services to widows of veterans. Amacker said she didn’t believe it at first, but decided to give Myers a call.
"I've had a lot of help in my life. A few months after my accident, my baby passed away while I was out of town and, you know, I had so much help from friends and family," said Raymond Myers.
Myers said that experience that made him want to help others.
"A song we sing at church quite a bit, 'Because I Haven't Been Given Much, I too Must Give" so, you know, I have time and some energy so why not help somebody else?" said Myers.
