People in the community of Day in Modoc County are under mandatory evacuations because of the 3-7 Day Fire. Evacuations have been issued for the community of Day from Sneider Ranch Road to north end of Day Road. An evacuation center at Fall River High School has been closed, but will re-open if necessary.
As of 11:30 p.m. Thursday, CAL FIRE said the fire had grown to 4,500 acres and was only 5 percent contained.
The fire was reported around 5 p.m. Wednesday. According to the Modoc County Sheriff's office, the wind shifted around 11:30 p.m., driving the fire downhill towards the community of Day.
According to CAL FIRE the blaze was started by a lightning strike.
At around 12:30 a.m. Thursday, advisory evacuation orders were issued for residents in Day, along Day Road. Crews dug a fire break around 3:30 a.m. and the fire started to burn back on itself. 683 firefighters are currently assigned to the fire.
The 3-7 Day Fire is burning near the Modoc-Shasta County line.
Shasta County CAL FIRE is working with Lassen-Modoc CALFIRE to contain the fire.
