Alleged prowler stopped, held at gunpoint until police arrive
Officers with the Redding Police Department said they responded to the 700 block of Hilltop Dr. on Saturday.
Kimberly Davis, of Redding reported a white female adult had cut a window screen to her residence and attempted to open the window to the garage. Mrs. Davis said when she confronted the subject she fled the area north on Hilltop Dr.
Officers said they searched the area but were unable to find the suspect.
A short time later at about 5:43 PM, Officers were dispatched to the 800 block of River Bend Dr., which is within a block of the previous Hilltop Dr call.
Kevin Dedmun and Ted Lidie, both of Redding, called 911 and reported they had a white female adult detained for attempting to break into a neighbor’s house. When officers arrived the detained female was identified as Jessica Pearson, 27, also of Redding.
Dedmun and Lidie told officers that they saw Pearson in their neighbor's backyard and their neighbor was not home at the time. They also observed Pearson attempt to slide open the windows to the residence to apparently gain access to the residence. When initially confronted Pearson was cooperative and agreed to wait for the arrival of police.
However, after a few minutes, Pearson violently attacked Dedmun and began to flee in an effort to escape. Both Dedmun and Lidie recaptured Pearson. Lidie who Police said is a licensed firearm owner, held Pearson at gun point until police arrived to take custody of her. Mr. Dedmun sustained minor injuries and declined medical treatment.
Pearson was positively identified by Mrs. Davis from the previous Hilltop Dr. call as the same person who had attempted to burglarize her home.
Police said Pearson recently moved to Redding from Arizona and has an extensive criminal history of similar offenses.
She was booked into the Shasta County Jail on charges of battery, prowling and two counts of attempted burglary.
