ANDERSON, Calif. -

Anderson Police Chief Michael Johnson has withdrawn as a candidate for the position of Chief of Police in Eureka, telling KRCR News Channel 7 he’s “laying down cement, sticking his feet in it and staying put.”

Johnson was reported to be the top contender for the job in Eureka, but decided to stay after becoming “frustrated” with a lack of communication through the process, according to a letter he sent Friday to Eureka City Manager Bill Panos and members of the city council.

He said on Monday that the only reason he applied for the job in Eureka was for the chance to be closer to family, and because it was the department where he started his law enforcement career.

Now that Eureka is off the table, Johnson said he is happy to continue his career in Anderson, and said he is not looking for a job elsewhere.
