As the Weather Heats Up, Some Lake Safety Tips
Lt. Mark Lillibridge from Shasta County Sheriff’s Office tells us every summer, the sheriff's office watches people make the same lake safety mistakes.
People often forget the essentials like sunscreen, Lt. Lillibridge said. But when the hot sun goes down, he notes that it is also important to bring extra clothing to avoid hypothermia.
Most importantly, the sheriff's office told us that it is important to know your boat, understand how it works and carry life jackets.
“People come early in the season and the boat turns on at home so they think they’re going to be okay,” said Lt. Lillibridge. “They come out here in the afternoon or the evening, go a short distance and the next thing you know there’s nobody out here in the evening, they break down and there’s nobody to flag down for help."
