New Clue: Triple Homicide Suspect Shane Miller's Dog Found in Humboldt County
Investigators revealed a new clue in the search for triple homicide suspect Shane Miller. Miller's dog, "Gigi" has been located near Petrolia, Calif., unharmed, law enforcement announced Wednesday. Now police are asking for the public's help to find the hikers who found the dog.
According to the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office, investigators were aware on the night of homicide that the Miller family's dog, "Gigi," a tri-colored Dachshund, was missing from the home.
Miller's wife and two young daughters were found dead in their Shasta County home on the evening of Tuesday, May 7.
Miller's car was found 200 miles away the next day Wednesday, May 8 in the Humboldt County town of Petrolia.
Now law enforcement has learned the evening of May 8, two hikers found "Gigi" somewhere on the beach at the end of Lighthouse Road in Petrolia.
The hikers could not locate the dog's owner so they gave the dog to a local woman on the beach who offered to care for "Gigi." The woman did not exchange names with the hikers before they left.
This week, law enforcement learned about the dog.
Police are now searching for the two hikers to find out more specific information about exactly where "Gigi" was found. Officers are still searching for Miller in the area.
Miller is suspected of gunning down his wife and two young daughters in their Shingletown home. His wife, Sandy, was 34 years old. His daughters, Shelby and Shasta, were eight and five years old.
Arrangements are being made to bring "Gigi" back to the Miller family.
If you know the people who located "Gigi", call the Shasta County Sheriff's Office at (530) 245-6025, or the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office at (707) 445-7251.
There is a Wednesday 5 p.m. community meeting at Honeydew School to provide Humboldt County residents with an update on the search for Shane Miller.
He is considered armed and dangerous. If you see Miller, call 911. Miller is 5'10", 220 pounds, with red hair and blue eyes.
