Autopsy pictures and new evidence revealed in Menzies trial
New details were revealed in the trial of Jeffery Menzies, the man accused of shooting Chico pastor David Yang in 2011.
On Monday, the prosecution called the forensic pathologist who performed Yang's autopsy to the stand.
Graphic pictures of Yang's body were displayed during the trial. They were so graphic that the Yang family had to leave the courtroom.
Monday was the third day of the trial. It began when the prosecution called a witness by the name of Abby Cox, a woman who told the jury that she saw Yang dead while she was driving with her fiancé on Highway 32 and Bruce Road on September 21, 2011.
She then called 911, telling dispatchers, "we just came up on a car; somebody got shot. He’s dead in the car."
Later, Detective Brian Miller of the Chico Police Department testified. He was the one who found Menzies' .270 caliber hunting rifle near a tree next to the crime scene.
Dr. Thomas Resk, who performed the autopsy on Yang, testified next, explaining to the jury in great detail - the single shot that went through Yang's head.
While Dr. Resk was explaining these details, Menzies sat quietly and did not appear to display emotion.
The trial will continue on Tuesday morning at 8:30.
