ANDERSON, Calif. -

Back to school means something special for eight-year-old Rachel Grant.

For the past two years Rachel has been fighting cancer. Rachel and her family have gone through a rough patch, in 2007 Rachel lost her twin sister to cancer. Now, Rachel is cancer-free.

Rachel said what she and her family have gone through has been hard, but she said she is thankful to have had support from her family. Rachel said hope and her faith in God is what put her through it all.

The eight-year-old said she is now ready to face the new school year and is excited.

“I get to sit by all my friends I haven’t got to see in a long time so it felt really good,”said Rachel.

“She was so excited to do the third grade cancer free so it’s really neat that that’s her perspective that she knows she can do it,”said Heather Grant, Rachel’s mother.

Rachel finished chemo last month and will be doing check-ups every month for a year.
