CHICO, Calif. -

Detectives are trying to identify a badly burned body found near the site of a small brush fire in northern Los Angeles County.

It's the same area authorities were searching for a college student who went missing more than a week ago, after leaving his girlfriend's apartment in Chico.

A cyclist called police about the fire, and when emergency officials arrived they found the burned remains.

Police have been searching for missing 19-year-old college student Bryce Laspisa using a helicopter, and dozens of people to search the grounds and the lake.

His mother Karen Laspisa says she talked with her son right before he disappeared.

He told her that he was tired, and was going to pull off the road to get some sleep.

Officials found Laspisa's laptop and cell phone, with traces of blood on them.

Officials says investigators have not made a connection between the burned body and the missing student yet.
