CHICO, Calif. - On Monday morning surveyors were lining things up along Highway 32 between "the park-and-ride lot" a few yards east of the Highway 99 on ramp and El Monte Avenue.
From now through January construction crews will be widening traffic in both directions to accommodate two lanes of traffic in both directions. There will also be aesthetic improvements as old trees will be removed and new ones planted. Precast-concrete sound walls will also be added as well as improved facilities for pedestrians and bicyclists.
Workers are asking motorists to drive a little slower until their work is complete.
"We're going to be out here from time-to-time doing our survey," said Kevin Reiser, a project surveyor. "Standing on the side of the road you never know when someone might swerve."
"Motorists need to know that we're here and they should exercise caution."
Access roads to neighborhoods in the area will not be affected.
