Chico State students honors Chavez with cleanup

Relative of Cesar Chavez encourages more serving, less drinking

CHICO, Calif. - The second Annual Cats in the Community clean-up was held Monday at Chico State.

About 200 students went into the neighborhood surrounding the university picking-up trash as a way to commemorate Cesar Chavez Day.

Beforehand David Villarino-Gonzalez, the son-in-law of Chavez encouraged the students to celebrate responsibly.

"Cesar thought that it was important that people just shouldn't have holidays from work, but that they should use those opportunities to go serve," said Villarino-Gonzalez. "That's the essence of what this holiday really stands for."
