Councilwoman admits to prescription pill addiction

CHICO, Calif. - Chico councilwoman Mary Golof said in press conference Tuesday afternoon she has been seeking treatment for an addiction to prescription medication following major hip surgery in the fall.

Golof has not attended a city council meeting since February 18. Her treatment for addiction started on February 27.

"I'm proud of my decision to seek help," said Golof. "I've never felt better or stronger or more ready to attend a council meeting which is what I plan to this evening."

Golof said she is still in treatment and she has no plans on running for re-election this year.

Golof stepped down as Chico's mayor last August.
