OROVILLE, Calif. - A fire devoured a double-wide mobile home off 10th Street near Feather Avenue, in Oroville Sunday. The flames spread to nearby grass and brush causing a small vegetation fire.
The fire destroyed everything on the property. The family returned Monday and found everything destroyed.
"The tree just went up in flames and it was crazy," said next door neighbor, Jordan Espinoza.
The couple who lives at the mobile home were away on vacation. The fire also made its way to a nearby field with dry brush. It was reported just a little after 2:30 p.m., and 30 firefighters rushed to the scene.
"The home was 75 percent involved in fire," said CAL FIRE – Butte County Battalion Chief David Hawks.
Dozens of fire trucks clogged Feather Avenue and quickly put out the fire as neighbors were getting ready to leave their homes.
"I asked them if I had to be evacuated and he told me he doesn't know yet," said Espinoza.
No one was evacuated from their homes; however, cal fire had to deal with another dangerous obstacle, the power lines along the street snapped and had electricity still coming through.
"The wires were sparking and everything just kept falling," said Espinoza.
"So we can't work up near them around them so we have to work away from them," said Hawks.
The power lines rested in the trees in the front yards causing some inconvenience for neighbors nearby
"My cable and my Wi-Fi [were shut off]," said Espinoza.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by CAL FIRE investigators. They said the fire season is off to a very early start.
"The fuel conditions are very dry," said Hawks. "It's more so than in typical late June period."
Hawks said the dry conditions are what we should be seeing in August.
He advises everyone to be careful, especially when it comes to using power tools in the yard.
No one was hurt during the fire.
