CHICO, Calif. - Chico police arrested a 30-year-old man who they say shot at a bicyclist early Tuesday morning off Rancheria Drive.
When police first got the call, they were told it was a bicyclist that shot at some people off a balcony; however, by the time it was all over it was the other way around.
Police arrested 30-year-old Joshua Douglas around 3:00 a.m.
In a press release Chico Police reported the shooting happened on the 800 block of Rancheria Drive around 1:20 a.m.
Police said friends of Douglas told them they were standing on a balcony and got into an argument with a passing cyclist. They say the cyclist shot at them.
Police started searching the area for the suspect, when they say a bicyclist flagged them down saying he was the one who had been shot at.
When officers went back to the scene, they say Douglas admitted he accidentally fired his weapon while arguing with the cyclist. They believe he was trying to scare the man off.
Nobody was hurt and Douglas was arrested and booked into the Butte County Jail. He's being charged with negligent discharge of a firearm.
