CHICO, Calif. - Chico police are searching for suspects and witnesses after apparent gang related shootings in downtown Chico and at an apartment complex Saturday night.
Shortly before 12 a.m., several callers reported a shooting near the corner of 3rd and Broadway Streets in downtown Chico.
Police found the victim, a 21-year-old Hispanic male, a short time later about a block away with a gunshot wound to his torso. He was rushed into surgery and his wounds do not appear to be life threatening.
Before the shooting police say the suspects yelled a gang slur in the direction of the victim and a group of friends he was with.
The suspects are described as two Hispanic males. The first, 5 feet 6 inches tall with a thin build in his late teens or early 20s. The other is described as a 6 foot tall male with a stocky build in his late 20s or early 30s.
About an hour earlier, just before 11 p.m., another shooting, a drive-by, happened at the University Court Apartments on West 1st Avenue and Klondike Avenue.
Witnesses say someone in a red Toyota sedan fired a single shot toward a group of people gathered in the parking lot.
No one was injured in the shooting but a spent bullet casing was found in the roadway at the scene.
Anyone with information on either shooting is asked to call the Chico Police Department Gang Unit at 530-89-5820.
