Red light driver causes downtown accident

Two people sent to hospital with moderate injuries

CHICO, Calif. - On Friday afternoon, a woman driving a tan 4-door sedan ran a red light heading East on 6th Street, hitting a mini-van that was traveling southbound on Broadway in Downtown Chico.  The crash sent the sedan spinning, releasing its airbag.  The driver was okay, but the driver's mother-in-law in the sedan was taken to Enloe Hospital complaining of an injured hand.

The driver of the mini-van, a woman in her 40s, was also put on a stretcher and taken to Enloe Hospital complaining of back and neck pain.

A passenger in the mini-van estimates that the sedan was traveling at least 35 mph at the point of impact.

Traffic was slowed for approximately one hour as the area was being cleared.
