Silent films featured at annual Chico festival

Distant relative of silent screen star makes appearance

CHICO, Calif. - The third Annual Chico Silent Film Festival includes a connection to Ruth Roland, one of the era's first movie stars.  Between 1909 and 1927, Roland appeared in more than 200 films.

Tara Lentz, 32, of Paradise is the great, great grandniece of Roland, whose films and memorabilia are being featured at the festival March 28 - 29.

Admission to the festival is $25 for an all festival pass or $10 per slot with multiple short films. Children 12 and under are $2 and kids under five are free.

Below are the times for the remaining films of the festival.

Saturday 12:00 p.m.  "The Brink of Eternity" and "The Devil Horse."

Saturday  2:30 p.m.   "Chess Fever" and "Bed and Sofa"

Saturday 4:30 p.m.  "Early Women Filmmakers"

Saturday 7:30 p.m. "The Little Tramps Centennial" "Kids Auto Race" Mabel's Married Life" and "Easy Street."
The festival is being put on by the Friends of the Arts and will be at the Chico Women's Club.
