Stolen gun, personal property recovered after arrests

CHICO, Calif. - Theft victims were reunited with their possessions after a woman accused of multiple thefts was arrested on Wednesday. 

According to the Chico Police Department, officers came across Deborah Jean Hughes, 43, a known felon, believed to be responsible for a series of thefts in the Chico area. Officers, who have been actively seeking Hughes, spotted her in a vehicle in the area of W. 3rd Street and Oak Street.

A search of Hughes' vehicle found six guns, including shotguns and rifles. One gun was loaded and had been reported stolen out of Chico in 2016. Deputies said they also found a small amount of methamphetamine, as well as personal property linked to pending theft cases in Chico, Oroville, Roseville and Yuba City. 

Chico Police arrested Hughes and her husband and passenger, Ralph Hughes, 40. Both Hughes’ have prior felony convictions.

Both Deborah Jean and Ralph Hughes were transported to the Butte County Jail. A judge set bond for Deborah Jean Hughes at $318,000. Bond for Ralph Hughes was set at $83,000.
