Update: New details revealed about burned car found with three bodies inside

Three bodies found in burning car; two found in trunk

MAGALIA, Calif. - Investigators are trying to determine the identity of three bodies that were found in a burned car  Thursday morning.

The Butte County Sheriff's Office found an Acura sedan burning along the Skyway on the outskirts of Magalia just after midnight on Thursday. The sheriff's office called the fire department for assistance and CAL FIRE was able to put it out before it spread.

"We arrived on scene it was fully engulfed at that point and so we are trying to piece it together at this point," said Lt. Al Smith of the Butte County Sheriff's Department.

After the fire was out, the firefighters found two of the bodies in the trunk, and one  in the back seat.

Investigators said that at this point, they cannot tell who the three people were inside the car.

"We don't have a good description or an ID on the deceased individuals," said Smith. "At this point it's very early on in our investigation we don't have a lot of details or facts."

One fact investigators do have is that the car was stolen in Sacramento just a couple of days ago.

The owner left the car running in her driveway and went inside her home for a few minutes. When she came out, her car was being driven off.

The Butte County Sheriff's Office is examining the burned vehicle for evidence.

"It's probably not related to decedents inside the vehicle.  We have a lot of questions at this point that need to be answered," said Smith.

As for neighbors, the incident was a little too close to home.

"It's terrible," said Rosie Velliquette, who lives right down the road from where the burning car was. She said that in her 35 years in Magalia, she has never seen anything like this.

"We've had a few accidents in the past but nothing like this," said Velliquette.
