REDDING, Calif. - Chico High School senior Kavon Samuels picked a good time to have his best game of the year.
"He had a special night," said Panther's Coach Jason Alvistur. "He really kind of had his breakout game. And he really showed the skills and determination that he has."
The breakout game came in Chico's 23-3 Almond Bowl win over rival Pleasant Valley High School. The 5-foot-11-inches, 185 pounds, running back and defensive back scored three times and intercepted a pass in the 4th quarter to earn the Megastar Financial Xtra Point Player of the Week for games of Friday, October 20, 2017.
"It was very important to us because we lost last year and they really kind of rubbed it in our faces," Samuels said. "So that motivated us to put the work in in the off-season and it paid off this year."
Samuels, who hopes to play college football at Santa Barbara City College next year, rushed for 151 yards on 21 carries and totaled 119 receiving yards on three catches against the Vikings.
Chico travels to Palo Cedro to play league foe Foothill Friday night. Xtra Point airs Friday nights at 11:18 p.m. on KRCR News Channel 7.
