CHICO, Calif. -

Chico's Neighborhood Church is preparing for a big celebration Sunday that will mark its 50-year anniversary.

On Saturday, dozens of members of the church choir and band gathered for lunch and a rehearsal at the iconic gold domed church on Notre Dame Boulevard in south Chico.

Founded by Ken Backlund in 1964, the church has grown from a small gathering to one of the largest congregations in the area.

"Neighborhood Church has always been committed to reaching our city and loving our city well," says lead pastor Andrew Burchett. "And from a group of 20 people 50 years ago in a little place on 3rd and Pine to this bigger building now, our mission is still the same."

Neighborhood Church's big celebration starts Sunday night at 6:30 p.m. and will include remembrances from its beginnings, pictures, videos, music and songs.

Hundreds of people are expected to attend.
